A city state once part of the Portugese, Omani and now the Tanzanians, this small archipalego in the Indian Ocean felt like an ever pervading refuge from the rest of the continental mass.

Paje
Our journey began at Paje Beach, a small town jutting off the southeast coast of the island. We woke up to unadulterated views of the ocean with stellar shores.
When we weren't enjoying the beach, we were reading, eating fresh fruits or doing hookah.
We dedicated an evening to go and try a nice meal at the Rock, an italian restuarant built on top of a rock in the middle of the ocean, accessible only by boat.
If you were surprised by an Italian restauarant in Zanzibar built as such, don't be. There's a large expat community living here with 15% of all monthly tourists being Italian.
Our next morning was earlier than usual. We needed to get a taxi to a national park where we got to see a unique monkey species, found only here on this island.
Red monkeys (not to be confused with another species called blue monkeys in the same park), are a monogamous tribal species who feed off the flora of the island. They feature four stomachs to digest these tough plants.
City of Zanzibar
I wanted to make a little section for these sets of photos. While we were here only for a few hours, I really enjoyed capturing the vibrance of an old city with the people who house in it. This was my first time doing street photography outside of New York.
I don't usually have much in my head when I take these pictures; not many narratives or driving conversations. I'll respect that and just post the photos here, an explanation may only serve to distact here. Enjoy.
